Roadmap Workshop for Germany’s Readiness Assessment

Carbon Gap's Germany Carbon Removal Readiness workshop to generated a roadmap for how to maximise the country's potential.

On November 11 2026, Carbon Gap held a stakeholder workshop as part of its Germany Carbon Removal Readiness Report to generate a roadmap for how to maximise the country’s potential.

Participants from government, industry, research, and civil society reviewed our CRRA findings and worked identifying key challenges and practical measures in policy, finance, technology and societal acceptance.

Key takeaways included:
• Germany could mobilise up 100 MtCO₂ per year of CDR by 2045; this depends on real policy ambition.
• Storage and transport emerged as the key bottleneck for DACCS and BECCS.
• Forest sink uncertainty remains high and could be decisive for national climate goals.
• A diversified portfolio across novel and conventional CDR methods will be essential.
• Clear consensus across groups: without strong early policy signals, scaling will stall.

We will now take the workshop insights and produce a compact set of measures and clear responsibilities to feed directly into Carbon Gap’s national roadmap for Germany to be published at the beginning of next year. A big thank you to everyone who contributed.

This event was part our Carbon Removal Readiness Assessment for Germany assessing the country’s carbon removal capability.
